Annual vintage airshow featuring WWII warbirds, aerial demonstrations, living history reenactors, and authentic 1940s airfield atmosphere on historic grass runways.
National Warplane Museum
The airshow traces its roots back to the early 1980s, when a handful of dedicated warbird owners gathered with their aircraft in a simple cornfield-turned-grass-strip here in Geneseo. In the early 1990s, the show gained national attention with a historic gathering of B-17 bombers - a rare sight even then - solidifying Geneseo's reputation as one of the premier vintage warbird destinations in the United States. Since then, The Greatest Show on Turf has run continuously, proudly held every second weekend in July.
Held on our historic grass airfield, this event offers visitors an up-close and immersive experience rarely found at modern airshows. You'll see historic warbirds take to the sky, including World War II fighters, bombers, transport aircraft, and rare vintage planes performing thrilling aerial demonstrations throughout the weekend.
More than just an airshow, The Greatest Show on Turf recreates the atmosphere of a WWII-era airfield. Walk among restored military vehicles, period reenactors, and living history encampments that bring the sights, sounds, and stories of the 1940s to life. Meet veterans, historians, and pilots who help preserve these remarkable aircraft and the legacy they represent.
Proceeds from The Greatest Show on Turf directly support the Museum's aircraft restoration, preservation, and educational programs. Your attendance helps ensure that these flying memorials continue to honor the men and women who served.
Gates open early, with activities scheduled throughout the day. Visitors are encouraged to bring chairs, sunscreen, and cameras to fully enjoy the show. Shuttle services, handicap-accessible parking, and onsite facilities help make the event enjoyable for all.
