It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we acknowledge the passing of Rob Holland – a towering figure in the world of aviation, the aerobatic community and a beloved member of our Geneseo Airshow family.
Rob was more than a world champion pilot; he was a gentleman and a gentle man, whose extraordinary skills spoke for him. His confidence soared not on the wings of ego but through the relentless pursuit of excellence, quiet determination, and thousands of hours of mastery in the sky. As one of the most skilled and sought-after performers in the industry, Rob never failed to find time to return to Geneseo – not out of obligation, but as a great friend. Year after year, he graced our skies with precision and passion, and year after year, we were reminded of just how rare and generous a spirit he truly was. Flying, and especially aerobatics, was Rob’s way of expressing life itself: bold, beautiful, and full of meaning.
Even though his heart was always in the sky, Rob was deeply grounded – genuine, humble, and always approachable. He was especially kind to children, often taking the time to talk with them, to listen, and to encourage their dreams of flight. His flying had soul and you could feel it in the crowd and see it in the sky every time he performed.
And though he was a world champion many times over, he never made a demand of others. He only ever demanded the best of himself. We had the honor of watching Rob grow. Not just as a pilot, but as a person of incredible humility and grace. Despite his global acclaim, Rob was always accessible, always willing to share his love of aviation with anyone who showed interest. He invited others into the cockpit of his world with open arms, never once placing himself above those around him. His legacy stretches far beyond the airshows and accolades; it lives on through the countless lives he touched with his performances, encouragement, and his authenticity. The soaring skies over Geneseo will be forever missing something now. A brilliance, a heartbeat, a friend. We will forever be grateful for the time he spent with us and will carry his memory into every flight that honors his. To our friend, blue skies, always..
